Electrical energy generation concession

HEP Quebra Queixo

A company which is part of a joint venture, the Companhia Energetica Chapeco (CEC), in which CBM holds interest, has the concession to exploit the hydropower in Quebra Queixo on the Chapeco River in the State of Santa Catarina, under a concession contract signed with ANEEL in December 2000. The term of the concession is 35 years and the power plant can generate 120 MW at full capacity.

The construction, carried out by the consortium, began in 2001, in strict compliance with the time schedule approved by BNDES, and was concluded in October 2003. Commercial generation began 2 months later.

The total investment represented some R$ 300 million, and CBM has a 41% interest in the stockholding.

Small hydropower plants

CBM has been active in identifying, studying and obtaining permits from the government to run small hydropower plants, having already defined 8 potentially interesting sites in the state of Minas Gerais.

The sum of the generation potential of these eight power plants is 93 MW. In order to exploit this potential, CBM has been actively seeking to form joint ventures with interested investors and/or operators.

CBM obtained authorization from the government authority ANEEL to become an independent producer of electrical energy at the small power plants of Fortuna II, Jacaré, Senhora do Porto, Dores de Guanhães, Brejauba, Monjolo, Sumidouro and Quinquim, all in the Doce River basin, in Minas Gerais.
